Overview
This canon states that a bishop, presbyter, or deacon who is a slave and frees himself from his master to serve in the church is to be removed from office, citing the principle of rendering to Caesar what is Caesar's.
1Abṭelis, 89. If a bishop, or a presbyter, or a deacon is a slave and frees himself from his master and serves the sacrifice and the office of the church, and he is a slave to the nobles, he is removed. For God, blessed be His name, says: 'Render to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's.'
