1Let a reader be appointed who is pure, quiet, meek, wise, greatly experienced, learned and well instructed, with a good memory and vigilant, so that he may deserve a higher degree.

2First, on the first day of the week, let the book be given to him in the sight of the people. A hand is not laid on him, but he hears the following from the bishop:

3You, N., whom Christ has called to be a minister of his words, take care and strive to show yourself approved, both in this rule and in a higher degree, by our Lord Jesus Christ, so that in his everlasting habitations he may give you a good reward for these things.

4Let the priests say: So be it, so be it, so be it.
