1We said to him again, “Lord, you have told us and revealed to us so many great things that were never spoken before, and in everything you have given us rest and shown us grace. After your resurrection you revealed everything to us so that we might truly be saved. But you said to us only, ‘There shall be wonders and strange appearances in heaven and on earth before the end of the world comes.’ Tell us now, how shall we recognize it?” He answered us, “I will teach you—not only what shall befall you, but also what shall befall those whom you teach and who believe, as well as those who hear that man and believe in me. It shall happen in those years and days.” We asked him again, “Lord, what shall happen?” He said to us, “Then believers and unbelievers shall hear a trumpet in heaven. Great stars shall be seen in the daytime, and there shall be wonderful sights in heaven reaching down to the earth. Stars shall fall upon the earth like fire, and there shall be a great and mighty hail of fire. The sun and the moon shall fight against one another. There shall be a continual rolling and noise of thunder and lightning, thunder and earthquake. Cities shall fall, and people shall perish in their collapse. There shall be continual famine from lack of rain, a terrible pestilence, and great and untimely death, so that those who die shall lack burial. Brothers, sisters, and relatives shall be carried out together on one bier. Relatives shall show no favor to one another, nor anyone to a neighbor. Those who were struck down shall rise and look upon those who struck them down, for they shall lack burial. The pestilence shall be full of hatred, pain, and envy, and people shall take from one and give to another. Afterward it shall grow even worse than before.”
