Chapter 33

1The deacon is to be appointed and chosen according to the things previously stated. Let him be of good conduct and pure, chosen for purity and freedom from distractions. If not, let him be the husband of one wife, well attested by all the faithful, not entangled in the affairs of the world, not practicing a trade, without riches, and without children.

2But if he is married or has children, let his children be taught to practice godliness and to be pure, so that the Church may approve them according to the rule of the ministry. Let the Church care for them so that they may persevere in the law and in the work of the ministry.
